  Description:
A long standing tradition of broadcasting the local segments of the MDA Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon from WGGB-TV ABC 40's studios met a challenge for 2007. After 38 years of being held at WGGB's studios, the event needed to move to an off-site location. WGGB and the local MDA representatives chose the new Mass Mutual Center ballroom as the venue.

The challenge? Turning a convention center ballroom into a TV studio, complete with production equipment, lighting, and a set. WGGB-TV drew on their strong relationship with Zasco Productions, and contracted us to provide all video, audio, lighting, scenic and rigging equipment for the event.

First, we provided a 40' x 32.5' box truss grid for lighting. From the truss, we hung black velour drape and our client's scenic materials in a "u" configuration to create a "studio in a box" within the ballroom.

Second, we provided, setup and engineered, all broadcast video equipment for the 4-camera live production, and delivered a broadcast quality signal to WGGB's engineering staff for microwave transmission back to the television station. Our "packaged live-switch fly-pack system" was the ideal solution, as it allowed for quick easy setup, and configuration, maximum flexibility, and reliable, consistent, predictable performance. The WGGB-TV production crew was able to walk into a ready-made, fully functioning remote studio, and produce the show, as if it were in their own facility.

Our engineer was on site throughout the event to oversee the engineering aspects of the event, and insure performance of our equipment.
