"Details Matter..."
Michael Zaskey started Zasco Productions at a very young age.
He was raised in Chicopee, the second largest city in Western Massachusetts. From the beginning, it was clear that Michael had a deep interest in all things technical such as electronics and computers, but especially how those tools worked in theatrical production, television production, and live music. Several influences may be responsible for this, including family visits to shows like “The Ice Capades”, trips to “Disney World”, “Hollywood California” and the “Worlds Fair” where Michael would often be more interested in looking up and around at lighting and sound equipment than watching the shows or viewing exhibits. A cousin owned an electronics store selling televisions, stereos, computers, and home video equipment, and a close family friend previously worked in broadcast television and often produced multi-media presentations from 35mm film slides with Michael’s father who was an avid photographer. At family weddings and special events, Michael would often perch himself next the the band, or find a place to watch any behind-the-scenes activity he could soak up. Chicopee was one of the first communities in the area to get “cable television” in the late 1970’s. The new, local, and ahead of its time “Chicopee Community Television Cable Channel 5” was launched and broadest city meetings, and special events live into everyone’s home. Michael’s father was on the City Council at the time, and Michael had the opportunity to tag along with his father to many meetings and events, and watch the TV crew at work. In the early 1980’s, Springfield Technical Community College began a summer program for young people called “College for Kids”. Michael enrolled in the “Television Production” class and was immediately hooked on the field, returning to take that class for three years in a row. Shortly after, in 1986 Zasco Productions began as a hobby. It was officially established as a business in 1990, while Michael was still in high school, and in 1992 he chose to make it his full time career.
In 1995, after being introduced to world of “Corporate Video Production” and “Live Events”, Michael solidified his commitment to focus on providing fully-integrated, turn-key creative and technical production solutions for corporate, educational, non-profit, theatrical, entertainment, and broadcast events.
A passion for knowledge, creativity, and most importantly – technical excellence and attention to detail is what drives Michael. More than just a job, Zasco Productions is his dream, and he is personally involved in some aspect of every project we handle.
Michael learned his craft from some of the most talented individuals in the fields of broadcast television, technical theater, sound, lighting, computers, electronics, and business. He was fortunate to have been given countless opportunities to soak up information and skills from many of the finest people in the industry. Drawing on the best bits of information from the knowledge base he compiled from each opportunity, Michael formed his own solid foundation, and forged “the Zasco way” of doing things.
With an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Michael continuously studies all aspects of production and applies new technology to the time honored, proven techniques that have been the basis of our success for the past 35+ years.
Michael prides himself on being fully immersed in all aspects of technical and creative production. He is well versed in every department, and can perform almost any production task with high degree of proficiency. From designing and engineering complex systems to drafting CAD drawings and producing 3D renderings, to mixing audio, operating a Barco E2 Screen Management System, building graphics, directing and editing video, programming lighting and even driving trucks, Michael has mastered all this and more. He is most happy when is not behind a desk, and prefers the show position of “Project Manager / Technical Director / Chief Engineer”.
Our many loyal clients take comfort knowing that Michael is on a project to ensure their vision is represented with precision.
Michael lives in Chicopee, MA with his wife Leah and son Samuel. When not working, Michael loves spending time with his family, live music, and alpine skiing.
